AMDC is a leading developer in the Nigerian market. The company’s goal is to lower the entry barrier to home ownership for middle income earners. Part of the company’s mission is “to create a place where people can live work and play” and that meets one of the world’s best standards. As part of this commitment, the company decided to embark on certifying its first project with EDGE.
Lekki Pearl Development is located in Lagos, Nigeria and was developed for mid-income earners looking to buy a resource-efficient home. A fully residential estate, the Lekki Pearl Development comprises of 112 units of bespoke semi-detached and fully detached apartments.
The building was designed to be highly resource efficient, with water efficient fixtures, energy efficient lighting, ceiling fans in habitable rooms and incorporated reduced window to wall ratio
During the design of the project, the EDGE App was used to evaluate potential efficiency measures and decide on the most cost-effective and highest efficiency-driving measures. The tool was invaluable and helped AMDC provide affordable housing that met the 3 pillars of sustainability.
“Thanks to EDGE, we are now able to quickly and efficiently see and communicate the direct correlation between our design choices and the triple
bottom line (Planet, Profit and People).”
This development serves as the proof of concept that sustainability can align with good housing options for Nigerian mid-income earners. If this project is well received in the market, it will be the first of many EDGE-certified real estate developments in the region.
